Garcia fears for Ryder Cup place

Posted on by godadnet

Spain's Sergio GarciaSergio Garcia is 18/1 to win the Madrid Masters but admits he is not in the best of form going into the tournament and will need to improve if he is to make the Ryder Cup team.

The Spaniard has failed to finish in the top three of an event for the last 19 months and has gone from being ranked second in the world to 32nd.

It also means Garcia is struggling to qualify for the Ryder Cup (Europe 8/11 to win), although captain Colin Montgomery would surely use one of his wild cards in order to include him.

“If it was right now I would probably talk to Monty and tell him what I am feeling,” Garcia revealed.

“I would only accept to go if I felt that I was the best choice. It’s the team that counts and if I thought that any other player could do a better job than me I would certainly decline.

“At present I don’t think that I am the best choice, but we still have a few months to go and hopefully things will change. I hope he does not need to pick me!

“I feel like I am getting better. My putting definitely is, but I’ve been struggling with my ball-striking and when that happens the alarm sirens go because I’ve always been a good ball-striker.”
